We have fun because we work hard! At the beginning of each year, we set goals for each department and at the end of the year we celebrate those well-deserved achievements. This year was no exception and the party was awesome!!
Last year’s theme was, “Accountability, Follow Through and Ownership.” The new, giant wall calendar, to keep us all accountable, had great potential but the momentum was slow out the gate. Our Operations Department, however, hit the ground running and never stopped, fully owning such masterpieces as new custom stamps, made to order signage, and a pneumatic soap cutter from scratch! All departments kept the momentum growing throughout the year following through with our daily mantra of, “We have fun because we work hard!” Individually there was lots of room for improvement, collectively we did a great job!
I am proud to call these happy faces my crew and it warms my heart to celebrate THEM each year. As an employer it’s not easy to find great help. Between Craig’s list ads, Facebook posts and notices on public boards you just never know who is going to filter out at the end of the interview process. I have been blessed to work with a core group of people for over 5 years, some for almost 10 years! It is from their honorable work ethic, trustworthiness, honesty and fun, creative ideas that this company has achieved the success that it is today.
Those successes have not come without their trials and tribulations. Deadlines, ingredients shortages, bad batches, wrong orders...and that’s just soap! Throw in layoffs and relocations, heart songs and heartbreaks, falls from grace as well as graduations and you’ve got...FAMILY!! And like family we make it through stronger each time.
To celebrate the ownership of another great year, we had our company party at our favorite local bar and grill, Haleiwa Joe’s, right after the Haleiwa Parade. Everyone was in a festive mood. Until they sat down. Everyone had a, “Oh, I don’t think I’m gonna like this,” look on their face! A big white tent with twinkle lights was set up on the lawn for us with four separate tables draped in white cloth. At each place setting there was a paint set. Laura of Paint The Night Away would be taking us through a pineapple paint session as we ate pupus and laughed the night away. As soon as the surprise settled, everyone loved it and had a blast!! Each pineapple painting was as unique and beautiful as its creator. The topper was the grand finale of Tahitian hula and fire dancers of Kalena’s Polynesian Ohana! It was a night to remember!
