NEUTRACEUTICALS:

NEUTRACEUTICALS:

Extracts from plants or foods which can have beneficial effects on the skin.

Aloe Vera:

The soothing properties of aloe vera come from the amino acids, minerals and vitamins A and C that it contains. It moisturizes, is anti-inflammatory, and promotes uplift and radiance. It is thought that aloe vera brings about exfoliation by cleansing skin, unlike the mechanical methods of other exfoliators. Aloe-based exfoliating enzymes aid in dead skin-cell removal, improves the skin's ability to hydrate and has an effective penetrating ability that helps to transport healthy substances through the skin. It assists in replenishing the skin with nutrients and moisture after manual exfoliation. It is used to soothe skin that has been damaged. Common usage is on sunburns. The many benefits of aloe vera are not yet fully researched. Research:

Antioxidants:

A group of vitamins and plant extracts which prevents damage by free radicals, damaging particles which can be generated by environmental pollutants and can seriously damage the skin’s collagen. Collagen is vital to the firmness and suppleness of your skin. This damaging process is called photoaging, and the results include dryness of the skin, a loss of elasticity, and an increase in fine lines and wrinkles. The skin cells may also be damaged by these free radicals, increasing your odds of developing skin cancer. Includes vitamins A, C, and E, green tea extract, and grape seed extract.
Vitamin E: In all products.

Grape Seed Extract (from grapes):

One of the most powerful antioxidants around, high in proanthocyanidins. A group of antioxidants superior to most because they are water soluble and much more easily assimilated by the body. A hard-working, free radical scavenger, it inhibits skin cell damage caused by sun exposure and pollution.

Organic Green Tea extract:

The benefits of green tea to the skin have been widely documented. This powerful antioxidant, 20 times stronger than vitamin E, inhibits the formation of cancer-causing free radicals and helps prevent skin-cell damage caused by sun exposure and pollution, which leads to aging and wrinkles. An anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant, it is high in xanthines which are very soothing and help moisturize. It also appears to tighten the skin. Green tea was recently documented to lessen damage to the skin by UVB. (Pub Med)

Coffee Beans, Waialua, Hawaii:

Coarsely ground coffee beans slough away dead skin cells, while its deodorant and antiseptic properties help keep skin fresh and clean. Its antioxidant properties are the perfect remedy for chapped hands and cracked heels. Because coffee has the same pH balance as skin, it is a free radical scavenger. It helps fend off acne and blemishes and may assist against premature aging. It also neutralizes and absorbs odors. Coffee assists skin by stimulating circulation. It has a lipolytic action and stimulates micro-circulation when applied to skin, thus increasing elimination of toxins in the skin.
Products: Hawaiian Coffee Natural Soap.

Essential Fatty Acids:

Omega 6 and Omega 3 oils that are necessary in the diet because our bodies cannot make them. EFAs are important in skin care because they help keep skin from becoming dry, keeping cell membranes healthy and skin soft and supple. Contained in many oils.

Hawaiian Guava:

Has skin-smoothing, moisturizing properties because it contains carotenoids, powferful antioxidants that aid in skin renewal and protect against environmental toxins. It also contains vitamins A, B and C.
Product: Lavender mint sugar body scrub.

Organic Unfiltered Honey:

Natural, unfiltered honey is an antioxidant-rich moisturizing agent and has mild antiseptic qualities. Research shows that it also contains alpha-hydroxy acids, an important ingredient in anti-aging skin-care. It is also a natural humectant, which moisturizes skin, and an anti-inflammatory. Many burn units in hospitals use honey to assist with skin regeneration. Honey contains all the natural enzymes that the bees add, including the substance-producing hydrogen peroxide that gives honey part of its antibacterial activity. It is important to use honey that has not been pasteurized, because heating destroys all of the above benefits.
Products: Hawaiian Salt and Sugar Scrubs.

Squalene/ squalane:

A natural moisturizing factor occurring in the skin. Also present in vegetable oils such as rice bran oil, olive oil, and wheat germ. (read more)

Vitamin E:

(d-Alpha Tocopherol) A natural antioxidant that protects our skin from free radical damage. Free radical damage leads to premature age spots, wrinkling, and can even cause cancer. In recent studies the use of vitamin-E-enriched rinse-off products helped to maintain the integrity of the skin by providing protection against damage at the skin surface. In cosmetics it also acts as a natural preservative.
Products: All Hawaiian Bath & Body products
(see the research)

Papaya and Pineapple enzymes:

A group of enzymes naturally occurring in papaya and pineapple fruit, normally harvested when green. They work by loosening the "glue" that holds the outer layer of cells to the surface of your skin, thereby encouraging exfoliation and more rapid turnover of skin cells.
Products: All Hawaiian Salt and Sugar Scrubs.

Organic Oatmeal/ Oat Protein:

Natural humectant clinically proven to increase hydration. Used in skin care products to smooth fine lines & wrinkles. Oat protein leaves a protective barrier on the skin, which prevents water loss and helps maintain moisture.
